On November 5, 2014, St. Louis City’s Circuit Court Judge Rex Burlison ruled Missouri’s marriage ban unconstitutional. This is the second historic win for Missouri in the court this year, following the Barrier decision this past September. While PROMO celebrates the extension of marriage benefits to Missourians in St. Louis City, we eagerly anticipate Attorney General Chris Koster’s appeal of this decision which will pave the way for marriage recognition across Missouri.
Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster has appealed the decision to the Missouri Supreme Court. At this point in time, there is no stay in the decision, which means ALL couples may get a legal marriage license through the City of Saint Louis Recorder of Deeds Office or any other office or clerk in the State of Missouri recognizing that the marriage ban is no longer enforceable. As of November 6, 2014, St. Louis County is also issuing marriage licenses.
